MUSIC FOR THE LUNCH BUNCH
The next performance scheduled for the 26th season of Music for the Lunch Bunch series will be Wednesday, August 4th at 12:15pm at Johnston Medical Mall in Smithfield. The North Carolina Brass Quintet will perform.
The North Carolina Brass is a professional brass ensemble from the Raleigh, North Carolina area and is available to perform as a quartet or quintet. Their library consists of over 250 musical selections from Classical to Jazz, Pop, and Show Tunes. The NC Brass have performed for the Durham Bulls baseball, First Night Raleigh, at the South Point Mall, the Cary Bond Park Concert Series, the Raleigh Symphony, the Durham Symphony, lead educational concerts for schools, and proudly participated in many wedding ceremonies and church services. The group members are Ramon F Kenan, Ben Shaw, Dean Olah and David Garrett.
The Music for the Lunch Bunch is a series of summer concerts held every Wednesday, at 12:15 pm, featuring local artists performing a variety of music, with particular emphasis on classical music. The concert series is grassroots funded by the Johnston County Arts Council and the North Carolina Arts Council. There is no admission charge but donations are accepted.
JOHNSTON COUNTY ARTS COUNCIL NOW ACCEPTING GRASSROOTS GRANT APPLICATIONS
Johnston County Arts Council is now accepting applications for North Carolina Arts Council Grassroots Arts Program subgrants through Friday, August 20th, 2010 at 5pm. Since 1977, the North Carolina Arts Council’s Grassroots Arts Program has provided North Carolina citizens access to quality arts experiences. Johnston County Arts Council serves as the North Carolina Arts Council’s partner in awarding subgrants to local organizations for arts programs in Johnston County. The Grassroots Arts Program aims to enrich the cultural life of North Carolina’s communities through the support of local arts programming that provides opportunities for every resident to experience the arts.
Applications are available for non-profit organizations whose purpose is to promote and develop diverse cultural arts programming in Johnston County. Funding priority is given to qualified arts organizations (theaters, galleries, choral societies, festivals), arts in education programs conducted by qualified artists, and other community organizations that provide arts programs in the county. Grassroots funds are not generally awarded to arts organizations that receive funding through the North Carolina Arts Council’s General Support Program. Projects must occur between July 1, 2010– May 15, 2011.

UP TO $1500 AVAILABLE TO INDIVIDUAL ARTISTS
United Arts Council of Raleigh & Wake County is now accepting applications for the 2011 Regional Artist Project Grant Program. The grant is open to emerging and established artists in Franklin, Johnston, Vance, Warren and Wake Counties. Up to $1500 is available to support projects which will further their professional and artistic development. Completed applications are due to United Arts September 15, 2010.

Calling All Book Clubs
The sponsors of the Piedmont Laureate program are compiling an email list of contacts for book clubs in the five counties of Alamance, Durham, Johnston, Orange and Wake. The email list will be used to send information about Piedmont Laureate appearances and other literary arts-related matters. The list will not be used for solicitation. If you are in a book club, please email the Johnston County Arts Council at info@johnstoncountyarts.org with your name and email address or the name and email address of the best contact for the club.
